History
Park County's offering of 100 men became Company A of the 14th
Indiana Volunteer Infantry. They were mustered into service on June 7th
of 1861 and were one of the first to serve three years in the eastern
theater seeing action at such famous battles as Gettysburg,
Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville and Antietam. They were mustered out of
service on June 6th of 1864 following the battle of Cold
Harbor. Some members of the current unit can trace back to
original members.
Co A was a Christian unit and this is preserved in the current
structure. We encourage young men to join and maintain a moral camp.
Many letters were sent home to Indiana denouncing the behavior of
soldiers in other units.
